OPRA REQUESTS

The public is permitted access to government records under the New Jersey Open Public Records Act (OPRA) N.J.S.A. 47:1a-1, et seq. with certain exceptions.  Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 47:1a-6 and 7, a person who is denied access to a government record by the custodian of record, at the option of the requestor, may appeal to either the Superior Court or the Government Records Council.

For more information visit the website of New Jersey’s Government Records Council. The Government Records Council oversees the workings of the OPRA process throughout the state. Their website provides a reader friendly version of the OPRA legislation, additional information on the appeals process, and answers to frequently asked questions.
