  • It is your responsibility to schedule a fingerprinting appointment with IdentoGO

  • You must provide proof of your completed Firearms Purchaser Identification Card application, along with a confirmed appointment from IdentoGO.

INSTRUCTIONS

 

  • Click on "Online Firearms Application"

  • Enter ORI Number:

  • The following agency should appear:

  • Click "Continue"

​

  • Under purpose, select the appropriate blocks.  For initial applicants, the State Police recommends choosing both the Initial Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and Permit to Purchase a Handgun as best practice. If you choose one, and not both, you will have to re-apply and pay separate fees. Fees are non-refundable.

  • Click "Continue" and complete the application.   

 

  • You will need the contact information, including e-mail address, of two references.

​

  • You will also need to have a credit or debit card ready to pay the statutorily-required fees.

​

  • Your name must be entered exactly as it appears on your government document (i.e. Driver's License).  If your information does not match, you will need to re-apply.  You cannot utilize simplified versions of your name (i.e. Joe vs. Joseph). You may complete the application using a smartphone, mobile device, laptop or desktop computer. Disclosure of your social security number and driver's license number are voluntary.  Without that information, however, the processing of your application may be delayed.

Failure to complete the Firearms Purchaser Identification Card process may result in disqualification.  By entering your name and certification number, you hereby acknowledge that you have received and will comply with these instructions.

Upon completion of the application, print out the confirmation page and submit it, along with payment, to the Guttenberg Police Department. You MUST appear at the Guttenberg Police Department to PAY for your INITIAL FID CARD and/or HANDGUN PURCHASE PERMITS. Your application WILL NOT be processed until you have PAID for the FID Card/Handgun Permits. Nonrefundable payment is required to be made prior to the completion of the background investigation, as per NJAC 13:54-1.4.

It is recommended that you call the firearms unit, (201-868-2315 ext 156), ahead of time to ensure the Records Clerk is available to accept your payment.
