The Hudson County Office of Weights and Measures is a Division of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office. 

The Office of Weights and Measures is a local enforcement agency and is located at 595 County Avenue, Secaucus, New Jersey, 07094.

The Office of Weights and Measures is responsible for certifying the accuracy of all weighing and measuring devices used in commercial transactions, as well as inspect and test all commercially used weighing and measuring devices and systems.  A wide range of businesses and devices such as gasoline stations, packing plants, supermarkets and lumber yards are frequently inspected. The Office of Weights and Measures’ inspectors work daily to keep businesses honest by using state of the art equipment to inspect scales, scanning equipment and gasoline station pumps throughout the county.  Weighing devices for commercial purposes are not permitted to be used unless they have been registered with the Office of Weights and Measures.

 

The Office of Weights and Measures promotes uniformity in the weights and measures laws, regulation, and standards to achieve equity between buyers and sellers in the marketplace.  This enhances consumer confidence, enables businesses to compete fairly. Due to the many inspections this office conducts on a monthly and yearly basis by the men and women of the Office of Weights and Measures, New Jersey consumers can have confidence of measurement accuracy when shopping. However, consumers should also pay attention when making purchases.  Small, seemingly insignificant errors can add up.

 The Office of Weights and Measures mission is to ensure equity in all commercial transactions based on weight and or measurement.  

All businesses must have the Weights and Measures Registration as required by the State of New Jersey for devices used in commercial transactions.
